At Iron City Church, you are considered to be part of our “faith family” when you begin attending on a regular basis. However, we recognize the need for formal membership as a way to commit to and connect with others in your faith family.

We ask you to commit to membership for four reasons:

A Biblical Reason: Christ is committed to the church
“. . . Christ loved the church, and he gave his life for it.” – Ephesians 5:25

A Cultural Reason: It is an antidote to our society
We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything…a job…a marriage…our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers and hoppers.” Membership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision. Commitment always builds character.

A Practical Reason: It defines who can be counted on
Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every army has an enlistment. Our nation takes a census and requires voter registration. Membership identifies our family.

A Personal Reason: It aids our spiritual growth
The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you’re not committed to any specific church family.

Anyone desiring to be a member of Iron City Church must be a professing believer in Jesus Christ, must be (or have been) baptized by immersion, and must complete the Iron City Church membership class.

Baptism is the way you exhibit your acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. We practice baptism by immersion for those people who make or have already made a clear declaration of their belief in Christ.

Baptism by immersion illustrates Jesus’ burial and resurrection.

“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”
– 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NIV

Baptism illustrates your new life in Christ.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

Baptism does not make you a believer. It shows you already believe.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”
– Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV

Please contact Kam Pugh if you have further questions about baptism or to make arrangements to be baptized.
