Men's Spring Growth Groups

Men's Spring Growth Group: Biblical Sexuality in a Modern World

The Death of Porn by Ray Ortlund

This is group will be reading through Ray Ortland’s The Death of Porn this group is for anyone wanting to hear what the Scriptures have to say about how to relate to sex and sexuality and how a Biblical sexual ethic brings freedom and life. Are you struggling to find freedom from sexual brokenness? Are you expecting too much out of sex in your marriage? Do you only see sex as something to avoid or shameful? Do you struggle to know how to talk about sex and pornography with your son? This group is for you!

Ray Ortlund writes six personal letters, as from a father to his son. Ideal for individuals and small groups, it will give hope to men who have been misled by porn into devaluing themselves and others. Through Scripture and personal stories, Ortlund assures readers that God loves them the most tenderly in their moments of deepest shame. The Death of Porn inspires men to come together in new ways to fight the injustice of porn and build a world of nobility for every man and woman―for the sake of future generations.

Men's Spring Growth Group: Every Good Endeavor, What the Bible Says About Work

Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller

Are you struggling to find purpose or meaning in your job or vocation? Are you conflicted about the balance of work and family? Do you want to “work as unto the Lord” but don’t know what that looks like or means? Then this group is a great fit for you! Take the next few months to hear how the Scriptures direct how and why we work in a way that provides balance, life, and purpose in the workplace as we read through Tim Keller's Every Good Endeavor".

With deep conviction and often surprising advice, Keller shows readers that biblical wisdom is immensely relevant to our questions about work today. In fact, the Christian view of work—that we work to serve others, not ourselves—can provide the foundation of a thriving professional and balanced personal life. Keller shows how excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity, and passion in the workplace can help others and even be considered acts of worship—not just of self-interest.

Do you have a talent (hidden or otherwise) that would bring happiness and mirth to our ICC family? Sign up for this talent extravaganza as an individual, duet, friend-group, family, community group . . . really ANY size act is welcome (and encouraged)! We’re looking for 30 “acts” each performing up to 3 minutes (larger groups needing more time will be considered).

For those whose talent is baking, bring a snack that we’ll share them together after the show!

This is not a competition and no prizes will be awarded, because the big winner is US!

Our long-awaited Christmas Hymn Sing will be at the Johnsons’ studio on Friday, December 13th at 7PM. Join us to sing and hear various passages of Scripture to stir our affections for Christ this Christmas season!

Directions to The Studio:

Ashley & Bryan Johnson's studio is located in the Phoenix Building Lofts at 1710 2nd Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35203. It is on the same street as the McWane Center in downtown Birmingham (NOT IRONDALE). If you type Phoenix Building Lofts into your map you shouldn’t have any problem. But if you start to type the address in directly, check that the zip code is 35203 or you will end up at an alternate address! There is parking on the street around the building and it is free after 5.

When you walk up to the building, we plan to have someone to let you in the building. But if you arrive late, the call box is to the right of the door. Please dial 092 on the callbox. Ashley will answer and then buzz you in! Come to the elevator and then go to the 5th floor. There will be signs on the 5th floor leading you to Apt 509.

ICC Members are invited to a special-topic budget meeting before service on Sunday, November 24th at 2:30PM in Drennen Hall. This meeting will only cover the review of the 2024 budget vs. actuals and the proposed budget for 2025. There will not be a vote held at this meeting, but rather, this meeting is designed to give extra time for questions and discussion about the 2024/2025 budgets. All members will receive a copy of the 2025 budget via email before the December 8th members meeting, where we will vote on the budget for the coming year.

ICC Kids Lemonade "Stand for Orphans"

Join ICC Kids as they host a "Stand for Orphans" lemonade stand next Sunday, November 10th after the worship service. The stand will be located in the sanctuary entrance lobby. There will be lemonade and some baked goods available for a donation (Venmo and cash accepted). All of the proceeds will go to Lifeline Children’s Services (a local adoption agency). Parents of kids in Lower and Upper Elementary (1st-5th grade), please sign-up for "The Stand for Orphans" service opportunity at the link below.

None Like Him

None Like Him character study of God: Guided by the book, “In His Image” by Jen Wilkin, we will spend 10 weeks studying 10 characteristics of God and discovering how we are intended to reflect the very image of God. Tuesday nights at Kelly Redding’s house, starting September 17th.

Habits of the Household

Genna Dietrich and Katie Pederson are leading moms through the book Habits of the Household: Practicing the Story of God in Everyday Family Rhythms by Justin Whitmel Earley. Through the book study, discussion, and prayer, we are hopeful to learn practical strategies to cultivate a peaceful, faith-centered home through intentional daily routines. Friday mornings from 9:00-10:30am starting September 13th until November 22nd. There will not be a meeting October 11th as students will be out of school. Childcare will be provided. United Book Study

Join us as we read the book United: Captured by God’s Vision for Diversity by Trillia J. Newbell.  The study, led by Jas Richardson and Amy Fineburg, will delve into the desire, joys, and challenges of being a part of a multiracial congregation. The author shares her experiences being a Black woman in a predominantly White church and how the work of pursuing a truly diverse and welcoming church reflects God’s vision for us all. We look forward to doing the work to realize God’s vision for our church! Every other Tuesday (September 3, September 17, October 1, October 15, October 29, November 12) at 6:30 pm.

Developing Servant Skills in the Church

Do you feel unsure of how to use your giftings for ministry? Us too! Join us this fall as we gather once a month to share dinner and learn with each other. We will hear sister's testimonies of how the Lord has equipped them when they felt unequipped, learn more about spiritual gifts, and pray for the Lord to embolden us to embrace serving him and his world regardless of age or season. Feel free to text Brittney Cabrera or Mango Stewart with any questions, we would love to have you! We will meet September 6, October 4, Nov 1, and Dec 13.
