Iron City Church is an evangelical baptistic church located in the Southside area of Birmingham. We exist to make Jesus known and make disciples. Built on the foundation of the Scriptures with Jesus as our Cornerstone, we have four foundational pillars which guide and shape the direction of our ministries. We are a church that is: for Unity, for Diversity, for the City; and aim to do all we do for the glory of God in Christ.
About this role
The ICC Children’s Minister role is a full-time position. In this role, you will help lead and equip the children and families of Iron City Church. This position will report to the Pastor over Children’s Ministry.
Iron City Church’s ministry to children and families has grown through the years to the point of needing a dedicated, full-time minister. There are currently close to 100 children in our church’s database who are involved with our ICC’s children’s ministry on Sundays (birth-5th grade). The Children’s Minister will help provide leadership and direction for our ministry to these children and their families.
Job Responsibilities:
Sunday Service Preparations
Oversee set-up and preparations for children’s ministry space and lessons alongside Children’s Ministry deacons, including curriculum and lesson preparations as needed to meet the needs of our kids
Ensure volunteers are assigned and equipped to lead in each class
Ministry and Family Care:
Periodically meet with parents to provide care and guidance for families
Develop ways to come alongside parents in the discipleship of their children
Cast vision and create processes for family care, including working alongside foster care deacons to care for foster/adoptive families
Work closely with the abuse care team to ensure safety of children (helping create policies, attend abuse care prevention meetings/trainings)
Strategic planning for the future and growth of children’s ministry
Attend conferences and events for ministry learning
Volunteer Oversight:
Onboard volunteers and administer child protection policy training
Schedule and manage volunteers after onboarding
Equip volunteers and leaders to be trauma informed
Oversee Children’s ministry deacons
Coordinate childcare for special church events, including members meetings
Assist Community Group leaders in securing childcare coverage as needed
Administrative:
Help determine and execute an annual budget for children’s ministry
Supplies Management for children’s ministry areas
Oversee classroom layout so that it is a safe, clean, child friendly environment
Communicate announcements and needs to church staff, parents, and volunteers
Help create and execute annual family and Children’s events (Family events, Parents’ Night Out, Elementary social events, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
A deep love for Jesus and the local church is a requirement for all ICC staff positions
Post-graduate experience in a ministry setting or traditional workplace (preferably in a ministry setting or a job working with children)
Strong leadership and relational skills
Gifted in administration and organization
Must be an active member of Iron City Church in good standing, or willing to pursue membership.
